The development of society in a given state, region, or locality goes together with technical development. And the government of India and State Government of Uttaranchal are promised to make Uttaranchal a developed state. To fulfill its purpose the Directorate of Technical Education Uttaranchal was formed in July 2001. The Directorate of Technical Education Uttaranchal is the administering authority for technical education in the state. The Directorate has the responsibility to provide technical education to skilled unemployed people so that they may come into mainstream path of social development.


The Technical Education in the state is provided through through ITI’s, Polytechnics, Engineering Colleges, MBA Colleges, MCA Colleges, Pharmacy Colleges, Hotel Management & Catering Institutes, University Constituent Engineering College, and IIT Roorkee. These technical/professional institutes are Government, Government Aided but privately managed and private but privately managed without any Government Aid. All the institutions in the state involved in providing technical education come under the purview of Directorate of Technical Education Uttaranchal. The Directorate is situated at Srinagar Garhwal.

Duties and Functions

Following are mentioned the duties and functions of the Directorate of Technical Education Uttaranchal.

1. Curriculum design and preparation of resource materials.
2. Starting new Institutions/Programs with the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) / University.
3. Admission to courses through entrance test or otherwise
4. Annual budgeting, budget allocation to Institutions, issue of a administrative/purchase sanction, audit of accounts.
5. Staff appointment, promotion and transfer.
6. Maintenance of academic standards.
7. Provide grant to aided institutions.
8. Civil works, maintenance.
9. Promotion of research and development and industry institution interaction.
10. Liaise with AICTE, Central Government and University.
11. Maintain database on Technical Education facilities in the State.
12. Monitor and evaluate programmers.
13. Monitor and evaluate programmers.
