The aim of the Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya Uttaranchal is to impart education in the age old format of Gurukul system. It was established in the year 1902 by Swami Shraddhanandaji with this purpose. The Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya Uttaranchal offers undergraduate courses in 20 subjects and Post-graduate courses in 17 subjects. The students opting to take up PhD courses in Uttaranchal in subjects like philosophy, ancient Indian culture, Vedic literature and so on, can also take admission in this university. The university has been given the status of deemed university by the University Grants Commission keeping in mind its excellent academic contributions. The Gurukula Kangri Vishwavidyalaya Uttaranchal has also taken steps to uplift the conditions of women and impart education to them by starting the Kanya Gurukula Mahavidyalaya in the year 1922.
